John P. Hastings is a composer and sound artist based in Los Angeles, CA. His influences include: James Tenney, La Monte Young, John Cage, Horatiu Radulescu and Phill Niblock. The main focus of his current compositions are the harmonic series, tonal patterns and perception over time. The creation of unique sonic environments and unheard musical frequencies are an inherent part of these interests.
Born and raised in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, John has lived in London, UK, Charlottesville, VA, New York, NY as well as Los Angeles. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia and the California Institute of the Arts where he studied with Ulrich Krieger , Michael Pisaro, Mark Trayle and Wolfgang von Schweinitz.
